Sometimes I find myself thinking about what it'll really be like in heaven. I think of the mansions we'll be dwelling in, the streets of gold we'll traverse with Jesus and the Tree of Life with every kind of fruit we will ever want. I try to stay in that head space for a while, but something always interrupts my thoughts and I'm back to my earthly surroundings. I don't know 'bout y'all, but I'm homesick for heaven - and there are things I'll really be happy to leave behind, too. For instance, I'll be really glad we'll be abandoning:

Don't get me wrong, I love dressing up, but does it really have to come with a Sunday filled with sorting clothes, washing them, getting them dried (worse if you're line drying), folding, ironing, and then putting them away? Hey! I can think of a dozen better things to do with my weekend, so I'm just celebrating that laundry's not taking the celestial trip with us!
I swear, there are more cars than there are roads, these days! Why does everybody have to own a car? Have people forgotten about carpooling? And where is everybody rushing to go? It also used to be that weekends meant clearer roadways and the chance to take a leisurely drive to the beach or countryside. Not anymore. And I'm not even going to get started on the road rage. God must have known we'd be tired of all this crazy driving, so we'll be walking on them golden streets.
"Ouch"! I can't even count the number of times I've said that in my lifetime. And I know there's more to come. That thought alone is causing me pain! I've had skinned knee pain, dog bite pain, childbirth pain, closing-the-car-door-on-my-finger pain, needlestick pain, grieving pain, sadness pain, toothache, headache, stomach pain and period pain. Gosh, I've had enough of pain! I'm so glad God promised in Revelation 21:4 that pain is staying stuck right here, on this earth!
What things are you looking forward to leaving behind, when the time comes for us to go to our forever home?
