I don’t know if this happens to you, but when I learn about all the major characters in the good book, people such as Enoch, Abraham, Moses, Elijah, David, Paul, and so on, I tend to think of these people as existing only during their recorded moments. It’s kinda like when a movie ends, the characters’ existence ceases with the end of the film.
But, in reality, those bible characters had a million other ‘moments’ not mentioned in the bible. Sometimes I find myself day-dreaming beyond the one-dimensional portraits of the Patriarchs and Prophets' lives. I daydream about the very tiny details of their everyday existence - insignificant events or occurrences, like David holding staff meetings, Elijah folding his sheets every morning, Paul taking showers, Abraham organising water for his animals, Miriam combing her hair, Moses probably treating his disfigured feet from living a nomad life for 40 years! The fact is, these biblical men and women were real people - pretty much like you and I are. I'm thinking they had headaches, they got sick, they didn’t want to go to work, they lost their temper, they questioned God, they didn’t always keep their promises, they overate.
Shakespeare, one of my fav writers, famously noted “All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts...” Hmmmmm... he was definitely on to something.
God, our Father, has a part for each of us to play in a movie he has been scripting since creation. He's inviting everyone to willingly act our part, so the play can end and we could finally all go home. But, Just like those people in the bible, we sometimes find it difficult to behave like a Christian, such as being nice, pleasant, healthy, cooperative, and willing. Jesus understands all of it as he experienced those feelings, too, and he still stands at the doors to our hearts all the time, helping us to get past this stage of our lives in one piece, so we can play a role in his unending block buster named Eternity.
Hey, I do NOT plan on missing that movie! Besides, I wanna vibes with David and Solomon - and all the kings and prophets, just to ask them what was some of the things they did every day.
What about you? Are you planning on hanging out in Heaven? Let me know in the comments.
