the joy of knowing him
Some of us might be familiar with John 3:16. This popular bible verse highlights God's love, as he offers Jesus to die for our sin. As Christians we are assured that by accepting Jesus as our personal savior, we stand righteous before God because of Jesus' sacrifice. This is such great news! We don't have to pay for our entire grocery bag of sins! Someone already paid our debt way in advance. Yes!!!!
But, there's more to the message of John 3:16, which is highlighted in a similar bible verse.
Let's have look at 1 Timothy 3:15-16 - it reads: 15 "This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting." (Underlined words are for emphasis)
So 1 Timothy 3:15 repeats Christs' sacrifice, then verse 16 adds something important - that we should follow Christs' example and be loving and forgiving to others. Isn't it an honor to know that we can play an active part in God's plan of salvation, by doing something as simple as loving people? How cool is that? We get to love others so much and so hard and so big, that they see God's love in us and want to be part of what he's doing, too!
So while 1 Timothy 3:16 is not necessarily a bigger message than John 3:16, it goes on a little more to show us how we can be part of the bigger plan of salvation. What other bible verses do you know that expands on the message of John 3:16?
